I usually play requested songs relatively quickly, but not like a jukebox playing the next track immediately. Nevertheless, the song needs to fit the current red party theme. In order to maintain the musical thread \u2013 especially in terms of speed with beats per minute \u2013 as an event DJ, I sometimes have to build a small bridge to get to the requested song. This can take about 10-20 minutes \u2013 but then the song fits perfectly into the party's flow. A second reason for not playing requested songs immediately is that, based on experience, it encourages guests to keep requesting more songs, meaning that as a DJ, I could quickly lose the red thread and the party would become too externally controlled if I followed it too closely.
