Hanging up responsibly – my path to more sustainability.

My specific actions for measuring and offsetting emissions.

DJing and sustainability

Travel, Electricity, Office, Technology: How I Act Sustainably as a DJ

As a DJ, I travel a lot – both within North Rhine-Westph phalia and beyond. Additionally, my equipment consumes electricity during my gigs. Both travel and electricity consumption are components of my profession that cannot be completely avoided. I am aware of my responsibility towards people and nature. Therefore, I have taken concrete steps to measure and offset my energy consumption and the resulting CO2 emissions.

Challenge continuously

For me, sustainability is an ongoing process. I regularly question how I can act more eco-friendly in my daily work as a DJ and continuously optimise.

Not all elements of my daily work are sustainable yet, but I am working on making further progress in the right direction step by step and becoming more sustainable.

As of Today: Overview of Sustainability at DJ Markus Rosenbaum

Travel

  • Reduction of CO2 emissions through – where possible – conscious Trip and travel planning.
  • Utilisation of the „Fleet Card Climate“ fuel card from DKV Mobility, which determines the CO2 emissions caused by fuel consumption during the journey based on the fuel used and automatically forwards a climate protection contribution to myclimate Germany.
  • Only bookings for hotels made through Booking.com that have a Sustainability certificate own.

Technology

  • Purchase of high-quality technology such as a mixing console from Pioneer, lighting technology from Astera and LD Systems Maui Porsche speakers. Due to their quality, the devices are extremely durable and do not need to be replaced after a few years.
  • Utilisation of Rechargeable batteries instead of batteries for devices such as wireless microphones, photo box flash etc.

Electricity

  • Measurement of the concrete Power consumption, that is incurred during a gig on site as a basis for compensation.
  • Utilisation of green electricity in Offices and warehouses with the provider MAINGAU StromDirekt Öko.

Office

  • Paperless office, as customer communication, contracts and accounting are handled purely digitally.
  • Offsetting the CO2 emissions of my website hosting.

DJ & sustainability: measuring and offsetting CO2 emissions

So I'm specifically measuring the emissions I cause during my work to offset them annually. Here I've chosen to collaborate with the organisation PLANT-MY-TREE® decided. PLANT-MY-TREE® stands for systematic reforestation within Germany. The organisation is also TÜV-certified and has over 20 years of experience in reforestation for the protection of climate and nature.

In addition to offsetting my travel and electricity emissions, I also have a tree planted for every wedding and event I play. The aim is, of course, to avoid emissions completely - where this is not yet possible, I at least endeavour to offset them in a meaningful way.
