Booking a DJ: Questions for the event DJ

My answers about music selection, DJ bookings and services

Do we have any influence on the choice of music?

Absolutely. Before you book me as your DJ, we can discuss the music selection if you wish. We'll clarify the structure of your employees and/or guests beforehand, and what music you prefer or what might not be as suitable. Nevertheless, it’s important not to fix too much in advance; a certain degree of creative freedom in musical arrangement is essential for me as an event DJ, enabling me to respond flexibly to the developing atmosphere throughout an event. With over 1,600 events played at the turntables – for both private and business clients – I have gained valuable experience. My strength lies in sensitively observing a crowd and deriving the musical arrangement individually with the aim of making the evening a success.

Absolutely. Especially at company parties and events, that's my daily, or rather evening, task as an event DJ. Uniting generations musically and giving everyone a fantastic party night is a challenge, an art, and my passion all in one. No one should leave the event unhappy with the music – that's my goal. However, it's important to me: If après-ski and "Ballermann" music, as well as Schlager, are in high demand, I am not the right DJ for your event. I only consider these music genres in a manageable dose. You should book a different DJ for this, though I'm happy to recommend good colleagues from my DJ team who play these genres very well.

No, I'll leave that to my fellow male and female moderators, who are excellent at it. As nice as the idea of an all-rounder may be, the event DJ who can also moderate or play the saxophone is generally not truly good at everything they offer. My core competence is clearly my musical knowledge combined with DJ mixing and good observation skills on-site. Of course, I always have a wireless microphone with me so the managing director's announcements can be transmitted without any problems at any time. Should more extensive microphone coverage be required, please feel free to contact me when you wish to book me as a DJ, as I work with good technical partners who can provide support in this area.

I dress appropriately for the occasion. This includes everything from a shirt with casual chino trousers and smart trainers to a bespoke suit with a shirt and bow tie. However, I cannot offer a tailcoat and shiny patent leather shoes. That would not be % me 100% and it is very important for me to feel comfortable in my work clothes.

It varies a lot. Some Saturdays are booked up by me two years in advance, whereas Fridays are sometimes still available with six weeks' notice. As soon as you have a date for your event, you should enquire about booking a DJ to secure your slot.

If you would like to book me as a DJ, we have agreed on a date, and I know the precise duration required and the extent of the technical equipment needed, I will then create a customised quote. Following your confirmation, I will send you the booking confirmation. I will issue my invoice after the event, with a payment term of 30 days. You can read more about the process on the page Working methods.

In case of illness – which would be an absolute exception – I promise you an equally experienced and skilled substitute DJ. Through my 7-person DJ team You can always rely on very good, professional DJs. You will not be left without a DJ!

The exact price of a DJ depends on the playing time, any supplementary sound and lighting equipment, and desired additional packages. I can provide mobile DJ services for corporate events starting from €1,250 (plus VAT). You can find a breakdown of this price and information on other service packages under my DJ prices.

The GEMA fees are paid by the organiser. As a DJ, however, I am happy to help with the GEMA registration. I have also written a detailed article on the GEMA registration  written with all the important information.

A DJ set stands for the performance of a DJ and refers to the time from the beginning to the end of his gig, i.e. the time he spends at the turntables.

To find a good DJ online, you should tick the following points off a short checklist. 1) Are there trustworthy and numerous online reviews on various portals? 2) Does the DJ References on his website, ideally with the company name and the name of the person providing the reference? 3) Does the DJ work full-time - this indicates his professionalism. 4) Are there any exemplary mixes from real events that you can listen to?
